LIVE UPDATES: Collation Of Results Of Nigeria’s Presidential Elections

Two days after what many described as historic presidential and National Assembly polls, results are now pouring in from several parts of the country.

Before the exercise, expectations were sky-high in Africa’s most populous nation as millions of citizens elect the country’s next president and lawmakers.

In all, 94 million citizens registered for the election; No fewer than 87.2 million of them have collected their permanent voter cards (PVCs) and were eligible to vote.

05: 56 pm: Tinubu’s Campaign DG Lalong Loses Senatorial Bid 

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong who is also the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has lost the bid to clinch the Plateau South Senatorial District slot.

He lost to Rtd AVM Bali Ninkap Napoleon of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly elections conducted on Saturday.


05:50 pm:  Ned Nwoko Wins Delta North Senatorial Seat

Ned Nwoko has been declared the winner of the 2023 Delta North senatorial election.

The Returning Officer for the exercise, Dr. Mrs Josephine Anene-Okeakwa declared him the winner on Monday.  Mr Nwoko of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored 92,514 votes, to defeat Ken Kanma of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 86,121 votes.

05:07 pm: APC’s Bassey Ends Essien Ayi’s 24-Year Reps Reign

The Deputy Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey has won the Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency election.

He scored a total of 23,885 votes to defeat the Labour Party candidate who had 16,448 votes and the PDP candidate, Hon. Essien Ayi, who got 14, 448 votes.

The Deputy Speaker has ended the 24 years reign of Hon. Essien Ayi in the House of Reps.

04:25 pm: Reps Minority Leader Elumelu Loses Seat To LP’s Ngozi Okolie

Ndudi Elumelu lost his bid for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency to the Labour Party (LP)’s Mr Ngozi Okolie.

Mr Okolie won Saturday’s National Assembly election in the Federal Constituency and was declared the winner by the Returning Officer for the Federal Constituency, Prof Kenneth Abaraibe, at the INEC collation Centre in the Oshimili South Local Government Secretariat, Asaba. 


04:15 pm: Thugs disrupt collation in Jos North

Security operatives’ intervention prevented some thugs from gaining access to Jos North Local Government Secretariat where collation exercise for the presidential, the Senate and the House of Representatives results are ongoing.

The returning officers and all-party agents are still waiting for votes from Naraguta B which is yet to arrive when the thugs descended on the venue.

The timely intervention of reinforced personnel of Operation Safe Haven complimented by the police personnel was able to calm down the situation even as they waited for results from the polling ward.

INEC declares Mister Titus Zam of the APC winner of the election, beating incumbent governor Samuel Ortom of the PDP in his attempt to move to the Senate.

Mister Titus Zam was an appointee of Governor Samuel Ortom in his first tenure in Benue from 2015 to 2018, where he served as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs before he resigned from the Ortom administration on loyalty grounds.


12: 34 pm: Tinubu Beats Atiku, Obi in Oyo State 

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC), Bola Tinubu, has defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party in Saturday’s presidential election in Oyo State.

According to results announced by the collation officer, Prof. Olusola Babatunde on Monday, Tinubu polled 449,884 to win the state, Atiku polled 182,977, Obi polled 99,110, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party polled 4,095 to come fourth.


2:30 pm: PDP Wins Kaduna North Senatorial Seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Khalid Ibrahim-Mustapha as the winner of the Kaduna North Senatorial District election.

Announcing the result on Monday, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Saleh Ado of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, says the PDP candidate polled a total of 250,026 votes to defeat his closest rival, the incumbent senator, Suleiman Abdu- Kwari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 190,008 votes.

He said that Usman Bawa of NNPP scored 28,511 to come third, while Sidi Ibrahim Bamalli of the Labour Party polled 28,418 votes to clinch the fourth position.

11:53 am: Enugu Gov Ugwuanyi Loses Senate Bid To LP’s Ezea

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has lost his bid to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Ugwuanyi was defeated by Okechukwu Ezea of the Labour Party in the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday. While Ezea scored 104,948 votes to emerge the winner, Ugwuanyi came second with 46,948 votes.


11:35 am:  LP’s Peter Obi Defeat Bola Tinubu In Lagos State

Obi polled 582,454 votes to trounce the former Lagos State governor who scored 572,606 votes.

Lagos is the base of who was governor of the state from 1999 to 2007. Obi also defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The former Vice President wins with over 45,000 votes ahead of his closest rivals,  Peter Obi (LP), Bola Tinubu (APC) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP).

Tinubu polled 151,459, Obi 2,406 and Kwankwaso scored 18,270.

Two persons have died in an attack on the campaign office of a House of Representatives candidate of the NNPP in Kano State.

Police say a group of suspected thugs set the office ablaze with two unidentified persons in a stationary vehicle inside the building burnt to death.

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi is leading his APC counterpart, Bola Tinubu, with over 1,000 votes in 17 LGAs in Lagos State.

As of 07:30 am on Monday, Obi has polled 448,878 while Tinubu scored 447,187.


07:50 am: Akpabio Wins Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Election

INEC in the early hours of Monday declared APC’s Senator Godswill Akpabio as the winner of the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial election.

The returning officer for the senatorial district, Professor Anthony Udoh, said the former Minister Niger Delta Affairs satisfied all conditions to be declared the winner, having polled 115,401 valid votes.


07:45 am: APC National Chair Loses Zone’s Senatorial Seat To SDP

The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has lost the Nasarawa West senatorial seat to the SDP candidate, Ahmed Wadada.

Adamu could not deliver the APC candidate, Shehu Tukur, to replace him at the red chambers.

04:41 am: Atiku Defeats Tinubu In Buhari’s State, Katsina

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar has won the presidential election in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state, Katsina.

Abubakar secured a total of 489,045 to edge out the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Tinubu who polled 482,283 votes and other candidates.

Collation will resume later in the morning.
