The Nigerians were on their way to Kaolak, Senegal, when their buses were attacked by gunmen in Burkina Faso.
The president conveyed his sympathies and prayed for the safety of other Nigerians stuck there in a statement sent by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, on Monday in Abuja.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Nigerian Embassy in Burkina Faso, is engaging with the Burkinabe authorities and awaits the conclusion of their investigation of the regrettable occurrence, and if required, to ensure that the criminals are suitably sanctioned.
“The Nigerian Government would make every effort to secure the mortal remains of the slain and survivors of the attack,” President Buhari declared.
