EPL: Well organized Everton inflict defeat on Arsenal 1-0

Sean Dyche began his reign as Everton Manager with a 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal in Saturday’s early kickoff.

The game began in typical fashion for a side with a new manager and Everton had the better of the first half. Chances came and went for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, however the crosses were staved off by Gabriel Magalhaes and Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners had their own opportunities through Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka. The number 14 had a chance after being set through by Saka but blazed his strike over and wide.

Saka himself had the Gunners best chance, a long cross from the left found the England international and his volley beat Jordan Pickford, but it couldn’t find its way in with the Toffees clearing off the line.

The second half continued the theme in the early stages. Chances for both sides with the biggest falling to Martin Odegaard after being set up by Nketiah, he blazed over.

However, the home side took the lead soon after as a corner was met by James Tarkowski. The balls into the box had been the undoing of the league leaders all game and it finally led to the breakthrough.

Mikel Arteta threw on Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and Fabio Vieira in the second half in search of turning the game. However, despite pushing for a goal the Gunners for just the second time this league season failed to score.
