The body of an unknown man who drowned while riding a jetski in the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways of Lagos State on Wednesday, has been found.
Local divers found the body on Friday morning, according to Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority.
The victim drowned as a result of speeding, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
The body had sunk too far for rescue, he said.
Emmanuel, however, said that as soon as the body was discovered, local divers alerted emergency services.
Emergency personnel discovered the body on Friday morning with the assistance of nearby residents, the man claimed. We were alerted by the villagers who had discovered the body, and we went to locate and recover it. The marine police now have possession of it.
The LASWA director claimed that until the body was taken to the marine police, the deceased’s identity had not been established.
“We did not have the victim’s details when we transferred the body to the maritime police,” he claimed. Their research on his identity will be conducted.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for a reaction as calls made to his telephone were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
