Ever since Peter Obi decided the former Senator will be his running mate, Nigerians have again revisited the comments he made during Goodluck Jonathan’s regime.

In 2011, during a debate to pass the law against LGBTQ lifestyle, Mr. Datti had said, “such elements in society should be killed,” which led to widespread attacks on his person for holding such extreme views.

However, during a recent interview on a radio program in Lagos, Datti said he was taken out of context.

“There is a difference between saying such elements should be killed and saying people should be killed,” Mr Baba-Ahmed said on the program.

“Go back to the video and play it from 20 seconds earlier you will see that it was not about killing same-sex people but about killing same-sex desires.”
