Switch Nigeria has come across a budget office document showing how President Muhammadu Buhari approved N1.1 billion for the purchase of vehicles for the government of Niger.
In the document dated February 28, 2022, it can be seen that the money totalling exactly N1, 145, 000, 000.00 was transferred from the treasury single account(TSA) with authorisation from the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning headquarters.
The document read, “Being release of fund in the sum of N1, 145, 000,000.00 to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation Ifo Kaura Motors Nig. Limited for supply of ten (10) numbers Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Vehicles to Republic of Niger Vide MR. According to David Hundeyin, a journalist with West Africa Weekly, a transaction to the Fidelity Bank account number 4010638472 went through, confirming the account is active.
Recall that in September 2020, Switch Nigeria reported that Buhari who prides himself as Mr. Integrity, free of corruption and his team of ministers approved $1.9 billion for the construction of a railway track linking Nigeria and Niger Republic.
The rail line was to link Kano-Dutse-Katsina-Jibia to Maradi in Niger Republic.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been in close relationship with Niger Republic, even as there has been several allegations that he’s Nigerien not Nigerian, hence his prioritising of another nation’s needs over and above those of Nigerians and Nigeria.
Many states in Nigeria don’t have working railways. Most have been dead for more than 20 years now.
The presidency is yet to make a comment on this as of the time of filing this report.
