England Women win Nation’s 1st Trophy since 1966

England Women brought joy to the nation, successfully ending a 56-year wait for a major international honour.

Chloe Kelly was the star of the game as they overcame perennial winners, Germany 2:1 to clinch the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 trophy.The game which recorded an attendance of 87, 192 fans at Wembley was also watched by over 17 million people across the world.Before Chloe’s 110th minute winner, England’s previous triumph at a final of a major international tournament was the 1966 World Cup.It was also a night for the substitutes, with both Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly coming off the bench to score for the host, first Toone in the 62nd minute, while Chloe got the winner after Germany equalised through Lina Magull in the 79th minute.The win meant so much for the football-crazy nation as football finally came home.
