The Abia State University located in Uturu has been shut down after a peaceful protest turned violent.

The protests, it was gathered were about the series of abductions and killings now prevalent in the South East.

As per Punch Newspapers, members of Uturu, Okigwe communities and students on Thursday blocked the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway to protest incessant kidnapping, killing of student, lecturers and travellers.

In a statement titled Mid-semester Break, the institution’s leadership said the break will commence this Friday and charged students to vacate the “halls of residence and await further directives on the date of return.”
