On Air Personality Sacked for Inability to Pronounce “R” But Tagged Misconduct By Management

A Nigerian lady has narrated how she got relieved of her appointment as an On Air Personality (OAP) in Yoruba language by a radio station during the Ramadan for her inability to properly verbalize “R”.

Zainab Fakunle who goes by the Twitter handle @fakurizy stated she had resumed her position barely a month ago only to be terminated at the end of the Islamic fasting period of Ramadan for reasons the management termed as “misconduct and non professionalism”, a charge she vehemently denies.

She listed her previous employers as SunCity 32 FM and Dux FM.

“I’m in pain!
After almost 30 days of Ramadan, I got the most devastating news of my life. I was laid off my radio job as an OAP, just because I have “R” factor! They laid me off barely a month after resumption! I’ve worked at 3 different stations before now and it was never an Issue. This is devastating, but I know God will vindicate mePainful part was that when this happened they said it was misconduct”. She wrote.

Further narrating her ordeal, she expressed worry as to the stain the wrongly tag of “misconduct and non professionalism” slammed on her by her ertswhile employer could portend for her young professional career.
