Forgotten Manchester United defender, Phil Jones put in a good performance yesterday against Wolverhampton Wanderers, even though they eventually lost the game.
The 29-year-old fell out of favour at Old Trafford due to form, with injuries also not helping his course.
It was Jones’s first senior appearance for the Reds in 707 days, a run that stretches back to 26 January 2020, when he scored against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in a 6-1 FA Cup fourth-round win.
With Harry Maguire out of the side that won against Burnley with a knock, Jones who came to limelight under Sir Alex Ferguson made it look easy, and it was as if he had not been away. He sowed no rustiness, as he slotted in seamlessly beside Varane.
With all his touches and clearances came cheers from the fans who have grown tired of Harry Maguire, who many have come to see as a waste of £80m.
However, one of his headed clearances was straight into the path of Moutinho, who sent a cushioned shot past David De Gea for the Wolves winner late, as the visitors rounded up a fine evening performance with all three points.
