A police officer in Kenya has reportedly shot and killed six people, including his wife with an AK-47 rifle in Nairobi’s Dagoretti area.
The incident took place on Tuesday. It was gathered that two other people were also injured in the shooting.
The killings sparked protests in the area as concerned residents took to the streets to protest, with some burning tyres. Some hoodlums took advantage of the chaos and looted nearby shops.
The police officer identified as Mr. Ben, shot his wife in the neck before driving to a nearby joint where he opened fire on those sitting there. When he was done, he shot himself also.
“We have lost six people all shot by the police officer before he committed suicide,” area police chief, Francis Wahome said.
Wahome however said the motive of the shooting was still unknown, adding, “We are told that the couple had issues and were quarrelling before.”
“The investigations are a secret. We cannot divulge, as it involves many things,” he told reporters.
“Until now, we never had any concerns about the officer’s behaviour. He had been going for duty properly, and had never been involved in an incident like this.”
Cases of police men killing their loved ones in Kenya are common.
