Some 7 girls have reportedly died by drowning in a Jigawa State river.
According to reports, the girls who were travelling from Gafasa village, Kafin Hausa local government area for Gasanya village in Auyo local government area for Maulud (a religious gathering).
According Gamafoi village head, Malam Adamu Haruna Gamafoi, “the incident happened at around 3:30 pm. A boat capsized with girls numbering about ten (10). Three (3) were rescued while seven (7) others were reported dead.”
He added that the girl’s, between ages 10-12, rode the boat themselves from River Gasanya when they didn’t see the boat rider.
He added that all the 12 victims were taken to Kafin Hausa General Hospital where seven of them were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Jigawa State Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with a Nigerian Tribune reporter.
