The Super Eagles of Nigeria got themselves into the next round of qualifiers for the Qatar FIFA World Cup by getting a point against Cape Verde.
Victor Osimhen who scored in the last game against Liberia in Tangier got Nigeria into the lead just 56 seconds into the game. But five minutes later, Cape Verde’s Stopira equalised for the visitors.
The remainder of he game which was played at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos saw Nigeria miss chances as the Islanders pushed the Eagles back.
Knowing they needed just a point to qualify, Nigeria didn’t push much. But Cape Verde knowing they needed a win exerted some pressure on the Eagles but it wasn’t enough to get them the win as the game ended in a statement.
Nigeria finished the group in first with 13 points, while Cape Verde came second with 11 points. The two are eligible for the playoff while CAR and Liberia will go home.
