The Government of Kwara State is working on modalities to begin issuing okada riders a uniform.

The State government said there is a need for the uniform in order to curb crime and reduce accidents in the state.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Suleiman Iliasu, Commissioner for Works and Chairman, Kwara Transport Sanitisation Committee on Sunday in Ilorin.

“Kwara, a peaceful state in Nigeria, has many respectable and peace loving Okada operators who have been major stakeholders in the transport sector but the recent pronouncement of bans in some states has led to infiltration of our Okada operators by aliens who may cause security breaches in the state,” the chairman said.

The chairman said many criminal syndicates operating in the state often use motorcycles to carryout their crimes.

Okada riders are increasing in Kwara and other parts of the country because many of these operators moved in from northern Nigeria, where authorities banned the use of motorcycles – notoriously used by Boko Haram insurgents, bandits and kidnappers to carry out attacks.
