Northern states owe NECO N2.8bn exam fees- Registrar

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has lamented the debt owed the body by Northern states which amounts to N2.8 billion.

This was disclosed by the NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dantali Wushishi in Minna on Saturday.

He Registrar said that the money owed the body is for examination fees. He added that out of good spirit, their results were still released to them.

“State Governments offer to pay examination fees for candidates from their states but when it comes to the actual payment, they don’t do it, and that has strapped NECO.

“Zamfara, Adamawa, Kano, Gombe, Borno and Niger State governments as owing the examination body N1.8 billion debt for the students they registered in 2019”,he said.

While appealing to Northern Governors to hurry up and pay, he added that the Council was already engaging the affected states towards resolving the matter amicably.
