Ministry of health proposes $200 million in 2022 budget for purchase of mosquito nets

The Senate on Tuesday strongly condemned the proposal by the Federal Ministry of Health to borrow $200 million under the malaria programme to buy mosquito nets in the 2022 budget.

The Permanent Secretary, Mahmuda Mamman of the ministry in his presentation before the Senate Committee on health, said the money will go for the procurement of nets.

In his further clarification, the Executive Director, National Primary Heal Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib noted that the $200 million was for importation and local production of mosquito nets.

However, the committee kicked against the idea, saying it is a bad idea. A member of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Gershom Bassey condemned the idea.
