Manager of Paris Saint-Germain, PSG, Mauricio Pochettino, has revealed that his recent comment on who deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or, caused a stir in the dressing room.
Mauricio had earlier this month, backed Argentina soccer legend, Lionel Messi, as deserving to win the prize.
Messi is hoping to extend his record by winning the award for the seventh time.
A 30-man shortlist for the award was recently released and it contains Messi’s teammates at PSG like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
There was a reaction among the squad at the dressing room, when Mauricio chosed the 34-year-old as his preferred winner.
The duo of Mbappe and Neymar has eyes on the individual prize too, which neither have ever won.
The PSG manager told Diario Sport: “I had a problem saying that Messi should win the Ballon d’Or.
“Neymar and Mbappé told me why not them.
“In any case, it would be great for any player from Paris to win it, but Leo deserves it.”
