Residents of Mowe and its environs in Ogun State can now heave a sigh of relief after police operatives arrested three suspected armed robbers, who have been allegedly terrorising the areas.
According to the Police Spokesman in the state on Tuesday, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the three suspects were apprehended on Monday.
Oyeyemi said the suspects, whose names are Daniel Okereke, Henry Osagwe and Wisdom Atuba, were arrested by policemen attached to the Mowe division around 10pm after a tip-off.
He further revealed that the policemen were informed that about seven men suspected to be armed robbers were sighted in a hideout at Ajeonibode area of Mowe, “where they were perfecting plans on when and how to attack their targeted victims.”
The DPO of Mowe police station, CSP Saminu Akintunde, upon receipt of the information, was said to have quickly mobilized his men to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to flight, but with the assistance of members of the community, three among them were apprehended while others escaped,” he said.
One locally-made short gun loaded with two live cartridges, two jack knives and criminal charms, the police image maker, disclosed, were recovered from the apprehended suspects.
He added that the case would be transferred to the State CIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on the order of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, who also directed that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for with a view to bringing them to justice as soon as possible.
