The main opposition party in Nigeria, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the Federal Government to terminate all plans for state of emergency in Anambra.
Gubernatorial elections are set to hold in the South Eastern state on November 6th, but there has been sustained insecurity issues in the state for some time now.
As a result, the Buhari-led administration has been mulling about declaring a State of Emergency in the State.
The North has for years now been laden with killings, kidnappings and bombings but there has been no state of emergency declared in any of the northern states where such is prevalent.
But in a statement titled ‘Perish Contemplations of State of Emergency In Anambra, PDP Cautions FG,’ the PDP said the Federal Government plans to rig the forthcoming elections.
The statement read in part, “The @OfficialPDPNig cautions the @OfficialAPCNg-led Federal Government to perish every contemplations of imposing a state of emergency in Anambra state ahead of the November 6 governorship election.”
“The @OfficialPDPNig holds that the reported move to foist an emergency rule in Anambra state is a ploy by the @OfficialAPCNg-led government to suppress the people, manipulate the process and rig the governorship election for the APC and its candidate.”
“Our party demands that the @OfficialAPCNg and its administration should come clean on their roles in the sudden rise in insecurity in Anambra state ahead of the election.”
