Three goals from Chalobah, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell were enough to send Chelsea top of the Premier League table when they hosted Southampton on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea started well, going ahead as early as the 9th minute through Chalobah, even as Chelsea again struggled to get the ball over to Lukaku all afternoon.
Timo Werner however saw alot of the ball. The German who has had about 14 goals ruled out by VAR since his move to England, took that tally to 16 as two of his goals were again chopped off, one for offside and the second for an earlier foul by Azpilicueta.
The Saints got themselves level early in the second half after Ben Chilwell fell former Chelsea man, Livramento in the box. James Ward-Prowse made no mistakes, as he sent Mendy the wrong way to restore parity.
Southampton were hoping to get themselves a point, before Ward-Prowse fouled substitute, Jorginho. Atkinson gave the Saint’s Captain an initial yellow card, but after consulting the VAR, he overturned it and gave him a red.
Things went down hill for the men from the South Coast from there on. And with just 14 minutes left on the clock, Chelsea made their numerical advantage payoff as Werner and Chilwell scored to make it 3:1.
