Mr. Isah Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has made it clear that the Federal Government will not hesitate to ban 5G should the faster network be used to threaten the unity of Nigeria
It is almost 120 days since the Federal Government banned Twitter in Nigeria, after it deemed the micro-blogging platform as a threat to Nigeria’s integrity.
And with President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent directive that the 5th generation network be rolled out, which will increase Internet speed.
Pantami made this known at the 10th Edition of Nigeria Internet Governance Forum Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (NIGF-MAG), led by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The Buhari-led administration hides under the guise of Nigeria’s unity to implement unpopular policies that will only take the nation back to the dark ages.
“We must ensure that 5G deployed is not used against the nation and its unity. Let us use it for the good of our country and the benefit of all,” Mr Pantami enjoined at an internet governance discourse in Abuja. He said the Internet “is a prerequisite to securing a nation” and also to promote governance activities.
“Today without the internet most of our social activities will be shut down. Our education institutions need the internet to leverage on, and we also need the internet to secure our nation, deliver healthcare and other services,” he said.
