One Abubakar Mohammed has been slammed with a four-year jail term by Justice S.Y. Abubakar of Gombe State High Court, Gombe.
He was convicted on a four count charge for attempt to commit theft, personation, possession and use of false document
Abubakar’s conviction on Thursday, September 23, followed his prosecution by the Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
A statement by the EFCC on Friday said his convict was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the charges which are punishable under Sections 287,132 and 364 of the Penal Code Law.
The statement recalled that the convict was said to have on 24th February, 2016 attempted to use false identity to transfer the sum of Six Million Naira from an Ecobank Account No 0123022902 to another account in Guaranty Trust Bank.
The statement added, “The inconsistency of his signature and the Identity Card he presented caused the bank to tip off the EFCC, leading to his arrest.
“The defendant, through his counsel, pleaded for leniency but the trial judge found him guilty of all the charges, convicted and sentenced him to one year imprisonment each on the four counts with option of fine of N40, 000.”
