In a way that seems to douse any speculations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally given a reason for why it shifted the conduct of its state congresses to October 16th.
The party had on Wednesday evening, in a terse statement, said the state congresses of the APC earlier scheduled to be held on October 2 had been shifted to the 16th.
But, giving a reason for the shifting, the APC in a statement issued on Thursday morning, said the reason for the shifting was due to the country’s independence anniversary coming up on October 1st.
The statement said it was to honour the anniversary celebration, as governors, ministers and party members will be involved in the independence celebrations in their various states.
The statement said, “The need to honor the country’s 61st Independence anniversary, which holds a day before the initial date fixed for the state congresses, informed the new date.
“Governors, ministers, and party members will be involved in the Independence celebrations in their various states. The party decided to reschedule the state congresses to allow all our members to participate in the Independence celebration.”
