Bishop Xavier Novell Goma of the Catholic Diocese of Solsona has left the Roman Catholic Church after falling in love with a writer of Satanic erotic fiction, Silvia Caballol.
The 52-year-old who is known for supporting gay conversion therapy and performing exorcisms was the Bishop of Solsona from 2010, when he was just 41, until last month when he decided to abandon the priesthood to pursue love with divorcee, Silvia.
He stated that “I have fallen in love and want to do things properly,” after newsmen caught up with him.
There has been widespread reactions to Novell’s actions, with some of his former colleagues telling the Spanish media that they believed Novell to be possessed by demons. The situation is “not a problem of celibacy but rather of infestation,” one said, as reported by the National Post.
As per the New York Times, the woman he broke his vow of celibacy and commitment to Christ to be with, Silvia Caballol, is a divorced psychologist and erotic novelist whose titles include “The Hell of Gabriel’s Lust” and a trilogy called “Amnesia.”
Caballol’s work revolves around, but is not limited to themes of madness, lust, sadism, God and Satan. Her publisher describes her as a “dynamic and transgressive author [who] turns upside down our ideas of morality and ethics,” according to the National Post.
Novell who upon his ascension to bishophood back in 2010, was Spain’s youngest bishop, has admitted in previous interviews that his infatuation with Caballol is not his first: Before becoming a man of God, he fell in love with and for a time wanted to marry and have children with an 18-year-old girl.
