The coronation of Alhaji Idris Adanno as the Sultan of the Shua Arab community in Edo state has been called off indefinitely.
The event which was scheduled for the 21st of August, 2021 at the Rialto Hotel in Benin City has now be suspended following calls from a cross section of Nigerians for it to be scraped.
Speaking to press, the propose Sultan issued and apology to the governor of the state Godwin Obaseki, who’s government had earlier directed that the event be canceled and the paramount ruler of Benin Kingdom Oba Ewuare II for the embarrassment the planned event had caused the people of the state.
“The whole issue was misunderstood because of the language used. All the tribes from the North who are resident in Edo State are all under the Sarkin Hausawa but we all now have our individual sarkin like those of Kanuri, Nupe and others.
“We are all law-abiding citizens and under the laws of the state. We are also loyal to our royal father, the Oba of Benin, who is a father to all of us. We are apologise to the state government for the mix-up and as law-abiding citizens, we have also cancelled all the activities we wanted to do as directed by the state government.”
The leader of the Shua Arabs pledged his loyalty to the Oba of Benin and the Governor of the state and promised to be law abiding and respectful of the traditional institutions of Edo state going forward.
