Barcelona has climbed to the top of the social charts in the just concluded 2020/2021 football season.
The Catalan giants climbed up a record 42% from the 2019/2020 football season.
The chart as released by the club on its Twitter handle, shows the popularity of football clubs across social media outlets, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Lionel Messi is Barcelona’s all time leading goalscorer.
“During the 20/21 season, Barça’s global accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram generated 1.96 billion likes, shares, and comments, far higher than any other football club.”
Manchester United came in second place with 1.59b likes, shares and comments. While Liverpool completed the top 3. Barcelona’s eternal rivals, Real Madrid are in fourth while Chelsea drops in at 5th.

Barcelona are top despite an underwhelming season.
“This figure represents record growth of 42% compared to the 2019/20 season, which reinforces the Club’s digital strategy in the field of sport.”

The growth has been dramatic.
Lionel Messi, the Club’s talisman and highest paid player, recently ended speculation surrounding his future after agreeing a five year deal with the club, while taking a wage cut to do so.
Transfer wise, Barcelona have also brought in former Manchester United flop, Memphis Depay on a Bosman, while fringe players like Coutinho will most likely be offloaded, even if it means getting rid of him at a loss.
