Gan Allah Fulani Development Association , another Pro-Fulani Group has warned against the ramifications of the ban on open grazing by Southern Governors.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Group’s Secretary, said that the decision to ban open grazing by the Southern Governors Forum will only breed hatred between Southerners and Northerners.
Abdullahi noted, “If you stop open grazing in the South, you are simply saying that those people should move to the North or they should move to other parts of the country. What happens if those in the North also ask the Southerners to leave? Are we promoting unity or hatred? What the governors are saying is practically impossible and it does not promote the unity of this country.”
“You don’t stop people’s means of living and expect peace to reign. So, the implication is that the unity of Nigeria is going to be in question. You don’t expect those that will be affected to return to the North and live in peace with people from the South living in the North.”
The Group failed to mention why the Southern Governors and indeed every sensible Nigerian have kicked against open grazing. Southerners are predominantly farmers and do not go to the North to farm. Yet northern Nigerian has biggest lands that cab be used for grazing.
Secondly, there are better ways to rare animals today, ways that the Buhari-led Federal Government and those clamouring for cattle routes have failed to discuss, talk less of adopting. These modern ways of animal farming, if practiced, will save the ongoing debate on animal grazing.
This and many more has led Nigerians to believe there is a hidden agenda behind this nomadic invasion of the South.
