COPA AMERICA: Argentina Ends 28-year Trophy Drought after Beating Brazil in Final

Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the 2020 Copa America final between Argentina and Brazil, as the La Albiceleste claimed their first trophy in 28 years.

Star man, Lionel Messi also ended a national team drought that began in 2005 when he won the FIFA Under-20 tournament.

Paris Saint Germain forward, Di Maria lobbed the ball over an onrushing Ederson and into the empty net on the 22nd minute, after De Paul put him through on goal with a perfectly timed pass.

Personal Awards

Lionel Messi scored four goals at the tournament and assisted another five. He got the golden boot award ahead of Columbia’s Luis Diaz, who had the same number of goals as the Barcelona forward but registered less assists.

However, Messi and Neymar were both awarded the best player of the tournament award for their standout performances at the tourney.

Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez went home with the golden glove award after saving four penalties and keeping four clean sheets.

Brazil claimed the fair play award for conceding far less fouls during the course of the tournament.

While Di Maria won the man of the match award for his goal and overall performance in the final.

After the game, Neymar walked over to Messi and gave him a firm and passionate hug for almost a minute as the two sat down and shared a laugh.
