To address the incessant clashes between farmers and herders in the State, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the Animal Grazing Regulation and Cattle Ranch Establishment Bill 2020.
The bill prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders and also mandates them to forfeit their cattle to the State Government if caught disobeying the law. The law gives no option for a fine.
The bill which was titled, ‘HB No. 045/OG/2021- A Law to Regulate Animal Grazing, Establishment of Cattles Ranches in Designated Grazing Areas of Ogun State and for other Matters incidental thereto and connected therewit,’ was presented at the floor of the House on Thursday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, Ganiyu Oyedeji.
The Speaker of the House, Olakunle Oluomo asked for a clean copy of the bill to be presented to the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun for his executive accent, after it was duly adopted by members of the House through a unanimous vote.
