Some unknown gunmen have made away with babies from the residential quarters of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Centre in Zaria, Kaduna.
It was gathered that the hoodlums attacked the quarters on 4th July, after they engaged in a gun battle with some police officers in a nearby police station.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, it was not only the babies that were abducted, but some staff too.
“Those kidnapped were our staff living at the staff quarters, some were abducted alongside their children. So about 10 people were taken away so far,” said the witness.
According to Maryam Abdulrazaq, the spokeswoman of the hospital, “So far, I have six names of the people abducted but I will try to get the remaining four names by Monday God willing. The principal Security guard on duty, two nurses Joy Yakubu and Odor and her baby, Lab Technician Christiana, Kasim from the Auditorium office were among those kidnapped,” she said.
The official number of those abducted as given by the police is somewhere between 7 and 8.
