House of reps. votes against lifting Twitter ban

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has voted against lifting the ban on Twitter in the country.

This is coming after almost a month since the executive arm of the government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the microblogging social media outlet, after his tweet was deleted.

The decision to let the ban linger was arrived at after the House considered the report of Committees on Information, ICT, Intelligence, Justice and Orientation, that was tasked with making findings into the lingering suspension.

Part of the report read, “that the Federal Government should take into cognizance the negative effect of the Twitter suspension on Nigerians who depend on the platform for their livelihood and lift the suspension.
