Ekiti High Court sentences 24-year-old to death for armed robbery

One Sola Jegede has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ekiti State High Court for theft.

The 24-year-old was sentenced after he was fo u just guilty of using a gun, knife, a club and digger to dispossess one Ibukun, Tope and Seun Ilesanmi, all sisters.

Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde who delivered the verdict said, “The defendant is found guilty as charged on counts one, two and three for the offence of armed robbery.

“He is accordingly convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for the offence of armed robbery and may the Lord have mercy on his soul.”

Justice Abodunde however dismissed counts four and five, saying that “No reasonable court can convict him of the offence of rape given the totality of the evidence of the prosecution with respect to the offence of rape. He is found not guilty and discharged and acquitted on the offence of rape.”

The condemned criminal was arrested on 30th October, 2015 for rape and armed robbery crimes, while he was still a minor.
