The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad Matawalle has been warned by the People’s Democratic Party against jumping ship to the All Progressives Congress.
There has been rumours that the Governor who contested and won his state’s governorship mandate back in 2015 under the aegis of the PDP, wants to defect to the APC.
The PDP, in a statement, noted that Matawalle will have to loose his mandate also if he decamps to the opposition camp.
According to the party, “No law allows him to cross over to any other party with the governorship mandate statutorily given to the PDP through the ballot box.”
It read, “The PDP is watching developments in Zamfara State as they concern reports of plans by the state governor, Bello Matawalle, to cross over to the APC.
“The PDP categorically cautions Matawalle to know that his plans amount to a decision to vacate office as no law allows him to cross over to any other party with the governorship mandate statutorily given to the PDP through the ballot box, as already established by the provision of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the standing judgment of the Supreme Court.
