On Tuesday the Nigerian Army intercepted 73 young men aboard a vehicle headed for Imo State at the Agan Tollgate in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to men of the 72 Special Forces Brigade stationed in Makurdi, the men who were of Nasarawa State origin, had about 47 Bajaj motorcycles with them and when interviewed, they said they were headed for Imo State.
While commenting on the incident, the Deputy Governor of Benue, Benson Abounu commended the troops for their diligence.
He expressed surprise that such a team of youths from the same state chose Imo State as their destination, despite the security challenges plaguing the Eastern State at the moment.
On his part, the Commander of the 72 Special Forces Brigade, Lt. Col. A. D. Alhassan, said he and his men acted based on a security report and intercepted the trucks immediately they got the hint that they were heading towards Makurdi.
The commander said his men spent some hours waiting for the travellers before they finally got to Makurdi at night.
He said a thorough search had been conducted on them with all goods in the trucks offloaded and their motorcycles dismantled for proper search, adding that no arms were found.
