Many trucks of onions have wasted away in the North, following their refusal to sell to the South.
It was gathered that no fewer than 50 trucks worth of the farm produce deteriorated as producers refused to ship it to Eastern Nigeria due to the security challenges in that area.
According to Aliyu Isah, the National President of Onion Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (OPMAN), who announced the group’s decision on May 2nd, after he claimed two trucks loaded with onions were ceased by suspected IPOB members.
“If the government fails to adhere to the demands of the association, we are shutting down the supply of onions to the entire South by Monday, June 7, 2021.”
The decision to suspend supply to that part of Nigeria has caused many farmers headache and many have lamented the economic losses occasioned by the ban.
