Rotary International Raises N25m Scholarship Scheme for Indigenous Students

Rotary International, District 9110, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, under its District Educational and Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF) has raised the sum of N25 million to support education in Nigeria.

The support which comes in the form of scholarships funds is aimed to fund brilliant indigenes through university and polytechnic education from 200 level. Once enrolled, a beneficiary is entitled to N100, 000 a year.

Commenting on the scheme, District Governor, Bola Oyebade, said, “Asking others to contribute was a simple thing. I was only asking them to emulate what I have been doing many years and to support me.”

District Governor, Bola Oyebade, is the 40th Governor of Rotary International District 9110.

“Not only have we made the highest contribution, we have also doubled what used to be the highest contribution and I am assuring you that this would expand our programme for DEWEF ultimately as I believe we can extend the scholarship scheme to over 200 students,” he said.

On his part, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Olawale Cole, said that DEWEF started with a donation of just N25, 000 and has received a boost of up to N25 million, which showed the commitment of Rotarians and its partners.

“With this fund, we have not only boosted education but had also trained over 100 corps members to complement government’s efforts at managing disasters.”

  1. What about the scholarship scheme for last year before the COVID-19 outbreak. Interviews were done for student who scale through the exams on zoom. Since then nothing has been heard. Or Have they discarded that last year’s own?
