No fewer than three persons lost their lives in Edo State on Wednesday along Benin-Ekpoma Road, due to overspeeding and overtaking.
The accident which occurred around Iruekpen, was comprised mostly of students of University of Ekpoma who were returning to school to begin a new semester.
While two of the passengers died on the spot, the third died on the way to the hospital. About 12 others sustained various degrees of injury.
When contacted, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Edo Command, Henry Benemesia, confirmed the accident, and said “What happened was that the driver was overspeeding, and wanted to overtake wrongly. Two of them died at the spot, but one died on the way to the hospital.While twelve persons sustained injuries.”
