Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has lend his voice on the Twitter ban imposed by the APC-led Federal Government of president Muhammadu Buhari.
He has become only the second governor out of the thirty six State governors to comment on the ban, after Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Both Ortom and Makinde are of the People’s Democratic Party, the main opposition party to the ruling APC government.
He noted that the plan of the Federal Government is to divert people’s attention from their ineptitude in tackling insecurity in some parts of Nigeria.
Governor Ortom said in a tweet on Tuesday evening, “The ban on Twitter is not only illegal but it is also an ill-advised move to divert the attention of Nigerians from the FG’s failure to tackle insecurity in parts of the country.”

He labelled the ban a violation of human rights.
“It amounts to suppression of fundamental human rights and gagging of social media.”
