President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to handover power in 2023, instead of continuing in power like some have suggested in some quarters.
The President made this known on his twitter handle on Tuesday, noting that despite the general insecurity in the country, he will do everything to ensure elections are held across the 36 States and the FCT.
Some of the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission have in recent times been attacked and destroyed. Buhari said the Commission and the Federal Government will not be fazed by the insecurity.
“I received a briefing today from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the series of attacks on their facilities nationwide,” Buhari said.
“These attacks are totally unacceptable, and we will not allow those behind them to achieve their evil objectives.
“I have assured INEC that we will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands.”
