Governor Nyesom Wike has played down rumours that he has already chosen his successor.
The Rivers State Governor who spoke during a church service held to commemorate the anniversary of his second term in office, said that no one has the power to force a candidate upon the people of Rivers.
He said, “Let me say it again, I have never sat with anybody to say I will make you governor. But, as a governor, nobody from anywhere, be it in the party, in Abuja, will impose who will be the candidate of PDP in Rivers State.
“Nobody can impose a candidate here in this state. So, if you are running to Abuja, you are wasting your time.”
He added that when the time is right, his party leaders will convene and select the right person who will take over from him in 2023.
