Some armed military personnel laid siege to the Niger Bridge along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway in protest of their fallen colleagues.
It was gathered that the Army men blocked the Bridge, which resulted in heavy traffic jams along that axis.
According to a source who pled anonymity, the soldiers were protesting the killing of five of their colleagues who were killed at Ihiala, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday, 29th May.
According to a commercial bus driver, the soldiers laid siege to the bridge since before sunrise.
According to him, “we are being robbed on daily basis now in Onitsha and Asaba, because of lack of security presence in the two cities. I think it is the right time now before it would get out of hand to bring the SARS.”
He lamented the security situation in the East and called on the President to do something about it as yoing people are now finding it hard to go about feely.
“I want to message you, journalist, to help me tell President Mohammadu Buhari, that Nigerians are dying every day in this part of the country. And that we needed urgent help because our grow male children does not longer move freely in the area”, he said in Nigerian English.
