Plans are in the pipeline for the construction of an extra 17 smart schools in States that are yet to benefit from the program, the Federal Government has said.
Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) stated this on May 27th, while delivering an address at this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
Dr. Bobboyi noted that about N600m was spent in construction each of the 6 smart schools found in the 6 Geo-political areas of the country. He added that another N350m will be needed in constructing each of the 17 model smart schools in seventeen states.
Bobboyi added that the Federal Government took the initiative of constructing such schools in order to improve the educational standard of the nation to that obtainable in other parts of the world where e-learning has long taken root.
“So far, we have 20. Our hope is that in the next one month, we will ensure that the remaining states that do not have the model schools have them; the construction will start very soon,” he said.
