Two persons have been left dead, while several others have been injured after a gas cylinder exploded at a local welder’s shop in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
In an interview with an eyewitness, whose name has been withheld, Switch Nigeria learned that an articulated vehicle that was parked beside the welder’s shop went up in flames, claiming the life of the driver and another man inside the trailer park.
“Following the explosion, the flame spread and torched people around the garage causing fear as people ran for cover. The driver tried to move the trailer out of the garage but failed due to the intensity of the flame and died in the process. It was reported that the Fire service could not immediately get to the place,” he said.
The driver had visited the welder to have his vehicle fixed before the gas cylinder exploded and killed him.
No fewer than 11 people have been taken to the Federal Medical Center in Azare and the General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment for various injuries, including fire burns.
