On Wednesday, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Sabo Nanono reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to champion the mass mechanization of agriculture in the country beginning with the procurement of 60, 000 tractors.
He disclosed this while hosting participants of the Senior Executive Course NO 43(2021) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State.
The aim, Mr. Nanono said, is to eradicate subsistent farming, and embrace commercial agro-industrial farming in order to ensure food security in the country.
He said procurement of agricultural processing plants, fertiliser production, among others, have also been considered.
“This would address the challenge of feeding the nation’s growing population and achieving food sustainability, create jobs for teeming Nigerian youths and boost the economy,” Nanono said.
