APC ‘Catches’ Former COAS, Ihejirika

Yobe state Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, on Friday received the former Chief of Army Staff Lt.Gen. Oyeabo Azubike Ihejirika (rtd) into the party.

Gen. Ihejirika was formally presented to Buni by the Jigawa state Governor and Chairman APC Strategy and Contact committee Alh. Abubakar Badaru and Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu.

Buni said “the coming of Gen. Ihejirika will increase the fortunes of the party in Abia state and the South East generally.

“This is a great moment for the party as Gen. Ihejirika and other sons and daughters of the region are coming into the party to deliver the region and bring the South East closer to the center.

“We look forward to more of APC presence in the South East”.

General Ihejirika was appointed Chief of Army (COAS) on September 8, 2010, by President Goodluck Jonathan. He served as COAS for 4 years until his retirement on January 2014.

After he retired as the COAS in January 2014, he returned to his hometown, Isikwuato where he was honored with a chieftaincy title, ” Dike Abia” (in Igbo), the “Warrior of Abia”.

It is not clear why Ihejirika has joined party politics, it may however, not be unconnected to the 2023 general governorship election in Abia state.
