The All Progressives Congress (APC) on sunday condemned the attack on the convoy of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom by suspected herdsmen on his farm.
The APC stated this in a statement issued by its National Secretary
Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe.
Ortom was attacked earlier on Saturday by suspected militia herdsmen at Tyo-mu village, along Makurdi – Gboko road, while inspecting his farm.
Ortom is one governor who, has always spoken against the actions of alleged herdsmen who have been responsible for the insecurity experienced of recent in the country.
Akpanudoedehe said the APC thanked God for the Ortom’s safety and commended the dutiful security details for repelling the attack.
According to him, the party is confident the country’s security services will do everything to unravel the criminals behind the attack and bring them to book.
He also said “The APC reiterates that we must all collaborate to end criminality in all forms. A crime is a crime and should not be politicised in any way.”
The statement of the APC comes a day after the major opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a swipe at it, saying Nigerians should hold the ruling party responsible over what it calls its failure to take a decisive step to check the “escalated insecurity and brazen attacks on innocent Nigerians.”
The PDP stated this on Saturday in a statement issued by its Spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, while reacting to the attack on Ortom by suspected herdsmen.
