The United Kingdom on Tuesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to return the sum of £4.2 million assets stolen by James Ibori, former Governor of Delta State.
British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, disclosed this in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, at the signing of the MoU at the conference hall of the Ministry of Justice.
According to Laing, the money was recovered from Ibori’s friends and family members.
She said the level of trust between Nigerian and the UK has been affected as a result of the fact that many Nigerians were in the habit of stealing money to her country.
She warned that the UK will no longer be used as a destination for looters to siphon proceeds of crimes.
