Notable Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has stated that Fulani herders learnt how to kidnap from NigerDelta militants.
Mr. Gumi is known for his strong support for amnesty for bandits who have been terrorising some parts of Northern Nigeria.
Gumi argues that the bandits turned to banditry in order to survive the negative effects of cattle rustling, as cattle rearing is their main source of livelihood.
He was speaking on AIT on Tuesday, when he made this claims, adding that only 10% of herdsmen were into banditry or other criminal activities.
He further said that if amnesty was given them, the remaining bad eggs would be easily identified.
Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, 60, is an Islamic cleric, scholar and former military officer with the rank of captain in the Nigeria Defence Academy, he is the current Mufti and mufassir at the Kaduna central mosque Sultan Bello.
