The All Progressive Congress (APC), have come out to debunk the rumours flying in some corners that the party has endorsed former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to be their flagbearer in the 2023 polls, which is barely two years from now.
There were reports last week that some Northern Governors are working assiduously to ensure that the former president is endorsed. But one of the party chieftains and the current Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, stated that it is just a made up story.
The governor, who was speaking to BBC Hausa on Wednesday, stated that such a story was unfounded and mere imaginations of people.
“But that is just a visit to him as a former president, it has no political inclinations. He is a former president and an elder statesman who is respected by many people in the country.”
“Did Jonathan declare interest to contest for President? In politics, we do visit each other either for celebration or to sympathize depending on what happened to anyone among us,” he said.
The governor said that, Goodluck Jonathan is a patriotic Nigerian and someone who loves peace and should be respected as such by all political parties.
“When we are talking of peaceful coexistence, we must give respect to former President Jonathan on the issue of peace. How he accepted defeat in 2015 and resigned to fate.”
“That has qualified him to be a statesman and he is now among our fathers.”
