On Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari violated the COVID-19 protocol he himself signed into law.
The President was in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, to revalidate his All Progressives Congress membership status, where he was seen without face mask for most of the time, in the midst of a horde of people.
On Wednesday, Buhari had signed into law the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulation Act 2021, a bill that seeks to hand a minimum of 6-months jail term to people who fail to wear face masks in public, or who violate any other COVID-19 stipulations contained in the new act.
Banks and markets have also been compelled by the law to enforce strict COVID-19 guidelines in order to clamp down on the spread of the virus that has now claimed thousands of lives in Nigeria.
It also restricts gathering of more than 50 persons in an enclosed space “except for religious purposes, in which case the gathering shall not exceed 50% capacity of the space.”
However, in the pictures released by the President’s media team, Buhari violated most of the Coronavirus protocols as he did his validation exercise at his polling unit in Sarkin Yara Ward, Daura.
